The holiday season is such a magical time of year. One of my favorite things is the sense of togetherness it brings, spending time with my family, sharing laughter, and creating beautiful memories. My earliest holiday memory is of my Nan playing the piano, and my family gathering around to sing Christmas carols, her music always filled the house with a sense of magic. It was such a simple yet beautiful tradition that brought everyone closer, and it taught me early on that the holidays are really about connection and cherishing the moments we share with loved ones.
Now, I love decorating the tree with my boys, singing carols around the piano, making and decorating gingerbread houses, hand-making gifts and cards, and cooking in the kitchen. The joy of the season and the memories we create are truly magical each and every year. Over time, I’ve also found ways to infuse our holiday traditions with the values that matter most to me, holistic living, healthy choices, and sustainability, making the season even more meaningful. Here are a few traditions that reflect those priorities.
Family Photo Album for Evan
Each holiday season, I take time to put together a family photo album for Evan. It’s filled with highlights from our year, special occasions and the little joys that our boys bring us. It’s become a beautiful tradition that lets us reflect and cherish our memories as a family.
Homemade Turmeric Chicken and Apple Pie
Our holiday table wouldn’t be complete without two of my favorite homemade dishes: Slow Roasted Turmeric Chicken and Apple Pie. The turmeric chicken is filled with anti-inflammatory benefits and rich flavors. And for dessert, my apple pie is the perfect balance between indulgence and nourishment, using natural sweeteners and a whole-grain crust. It’s all about sharing comfort and wellness through food.
Handmade Christmas Cards and Gifts
We love crafting personalized Christmas cards and gifts for family and friends. These gifts come from the heart and it’s a wonderful way to embrace creativity, and thoughtfulness during the holiday season.
Healthy Gingerbread House Decorating
Decorating gingerbread houses is an annual tradition for our family, but we use a recipe made with almond flour and coconut sugar. It’s such a fun activity with the kids.
Gratitude and Reflection
Before Christmas dinner, we sit down as a family and share one thing we’re grateful for from the past year. It’s a ritual that brings us closer, reminds us of our blessings, and sets a meaningful tone for the celebrations.
