At this current time there is a lot of uncertainty in the world. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stressed by it all, be reassured that you’re not alone, and this is a very normal emotional response.
It’s important to stay positive and focus on your health and family at this time. Be kind to yourself, and use this time to implement some much needed self-care strategies.
What is Self-Care?
Self-care refers to activities that help take care and preserve our mental, emotional and physical health. Self-care should be incorporated into your daily routine to maintain a positive wellbeing and to help reduce daily stress. It’s important to consider self-care as an ongoing commitment to yourself.
There are many self-care activities you can do from home. We’ve put together a list of a few self-care options that might help you feel a little bit better and help you take care of yourself and your health during the coming weeks.
Exercise is going to get the circulation going and will boost your energy and mood. It can take any form that gets you motivated and moving. It could be going for a walk or run around the local neighbourhood if you can, dancing around the house, stretching, yoga, pilates, playing with your kids or the family pet. Just get your body moving!
Keep Hydrated & Well Rested
Drinking enough water:
Water helps our body to function, eliminates toxins, and helps with cognitive function and cell reproduction.
Try and set a goal of how many times you fill up your water bottle for the day and if you’re at your desk keep, it in front of you as a reminder.
Sleep is one of the most crucial things we can do for our overall health. Getting quality sleep has a profound affect on both our mental and physical health.
Nourish your MIND, BODY & SKIN
Feed your mind:
In a way that serves you best. Whether that be reading a book, playing games, drawing, painting, colouring, playing an instrument or doing puzzles. You might journal to mentally release or put pen to paper to note your gratitude. The possibilities are endless.
Listen to music:
Begin or end your day with a meditation. Meditation can help to calm and balance both body and mind. It can also help to create focus and direction.
Pick a positive affirmation to start your day. Try and find ways to incorporate it throughout your day, by thought or by action.
Feed your body:
Good nutrition is always important, but now more so than ever. Make sure to eat nutritious foods to help fuel your body, giving you the energy and concentration you need throughout the day. Save the treats until your day is done.
Feed your skin:
Take a relaxing bath. Light a candle, put on some relaxing music and just enjoy.
