We love our new pH friendly Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser as it thoroughly cleans without stripping the skin and promotes a plump and radiant complexion.
Balanced pH levels give rise to a more even and consistent skin tone and also help to protect the skin.
We asked the science mind behind our formula’s, Natalie Hwang, on what makes our Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser pH friendly—and why.
She has lovingly explained in detail.

KORA: What is the pH – and what is skin-friendly pH?
Natalie: pH is a scale used to measure of how acidic or basic of an aqueous solution is.
The range goes from 0-14, with pH 7 being neutral, pH less than 7 as acidic, and pH greater than 7 as basic.
The outer layer of normal skin (also known as stratum corneum) has physiological pH around 4.1—5.81 on average below 52, suggesting skin’s natural pH is more on the acidic side.
When the product’s pH falls within this range, it is generally defined as skin-friendly pH.
KORA: Why is this important?
Natalie: Maintaining skin-friendly pH is important because pH plays an important physiological role, influencing skin barrier function, lipid synthesis, skin microbiota that can lead to skin irritation, dryness, and inflammation.1
KORA: What benefits does this have for my complexion?
Natalie: Topical products with skin-friendly pH are known to help minimize the disruption of skin barrier and reduce skin discomfort.
There are many cleansers made in a high pH solution that can aggravate dryness and irritation.
Studies have suggested that cleansers formulated with mild surfactants in a more acidic pH solution that is close to skin’s natural pH level, potentially is less damaging to the skin.4

We love this skin-friendly pH gel cleanser to purify the skin and awaken the senses with its menthol-like qualities.
