Don’t let dull skin interfere with the brightest time of the year! Facialist, John Tew, shares why skin imperfections are more common during the yuletide season and how a KORA Organics skincare ritual can keep your complexion glowing during the holidays and beyond. Read more tips from the Facial Wizard to the Stars himself, John Tew.
Q. What skin concerns do you see most frequently during the holidays?
JOHN TEW: During the holiday season I see people struggling with dry skin, fine lines and irritation. Unfortunately, these issues are prevalent when there’s excess drinking, traveling, stress and extreme weather conditions. These factors all contribute to dehydrated skin, leading to the appearance of exaggerated fine lines, blemishes and unflattering dry patches.
Q. What advice do you have for those struggling to combat these concerns?
JOHN TEW: Skip the hot shower and opt for a cold or lukewarm one instead. Bathing or showering with hot water can cause the skin to expand allowing toxic chemicals to seep in. This weakens cell communication and skin barrier function, making the skin vulnerable to dehydration and irritation.
I recommend using the Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask to exfoliate lackluster surface cells that dull the skin. The last step of your night time skincare ritual should be the ultra-moisturizing Noni Glow Sleeping Mask, which hydrates your skin during its most permeable hours.
If you’re experiencing extreme dryness and dehydration, I recommend braiding the Noni Glow Face Oil into your skincare routine for an added boost of hydration and always, ALWAYS using the Noni Radiant Eye Oil to nourish the delicate under eye area.
Q. What are your skincare tips for the busy, on-the-go holiday traveler?
JOHN TEW: Decrease your coffee consumption! Too much caffeine can dehydrate the skin and body. Make the switch to herbal teas. My favorite is chamomile, because it not only relieves stress, but also rehydrates. Keep a few tea bags in your travel kit along with the Noni Glow Face Oil and Noni Radiant Eye Oil to replenish the skin’s lipid barrier.
Q. What are the most common mistakes you see your clients making when it comes to skincare and the holidays?
JOHN TEW: Over exfoliating and not being mindful when massaging products into the skin are at the top of the list. During the holidays, skin tends to be drier and circulation slightly more sluggish. This is due to changing climates and poor lifestyle choices. Taking time to massage products into the skin without over doing it will boost lymphatic flow and micro-circulation while encouraging product absorption, oxygenation of tissue and more.
