Although we think dry and dehydrated skin may be the same thing, they are different and if treated correctly can lead you on the path to achieving that happy skin glow. Here we look at what dry skin is, its causes and the perfect products to tackle dry skin.

Dry Skin vs. Dehydrated Skin

An easy way to think of it is, dry skin lacks oil and is a skin type, dehydrated skin lacks water and is a type of skin condition. Treating them differently is important. If you’ve realized you’ve got dehydrated skin, read our blog post here.

With dry skin, not enough natural oils or lipids are being produced. Your skin will appear more flaky, rough or scaly, you might experience redness, itchiness or irritation and may suffer from skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis.

Causes of Dry Skin

Dry skin is often caused by genetics and hormones but can be exacerbated by external factors such as; over-cleansing or exfoliating, extreme temperatures, harsh weather, medications and harsh chemicals that strip and deplete your skin’s natural oils.

With Time Our Skin Becomes Drier

As we age we produce less collagen and lipids. Lipids play an important role in maintaining moisture balance, meaning the ability to retain moisture decreases, along with collagen and elastin fibres that support the structure of our skin. When all these elements fade, our complexion appears dull and dry. Using dry skincare that helps to deeply moisturize the skin, will help your skin to appear plump, soft and younger-looking.

How to Treat Dry Skin

How to moisturize dry skin is important. Moisturizing with products that are high in oils is extremely beneficial for those with dry skin as they help to repair barrier function and reduce inflammation. Here are the top products to moisturize dry skin naturally.

More Tips!

  • Avoid products that are going to strip your skin of its natural oil such as products that contain harsh chemicals and toxins and synthetic fragrances.
  • Use exfoliators to shed dry, dead skin cells and help enhance the absorption of oils and the rest of your routine. You can even create your own nourishing lip scrub.
  • Lukewarm showers or baths. Too hot and it will disrupt your skin’s natural balance and could lead to inflammation. Apply your body moisturizers while your skin is still damp straight after washing to help it absorb deeper into your skin. Remember to gently pat dry your skin rather than rubbing.

Don’t let dry skin dull your glow! Follow these tips and use gentle, oil-based products that work harmoniously with your natural sebum production to be on your way to a smoother and softer complexion in no time.

Would you help me with a specific skin condition, resulting from Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) syndrome. My entire body is healed but I have residual skin damage to my lip area and face and neck still have eczema.

I am in need of an advanced regimen and treatment plan.

    Thank you,
