What Is The Solar Plexus?

The third chakra, is known as the solar plexus chakra. This chakra is about inner power, our worthiness/self-esteem and our identity. The solar plexus is located in the stomach region, specifically just above the naval (bellybutton). This chakra is associated with the color yellow. It’s also connected with the element of fire.

Interestingly, the developmental stage of this chakra is between the ages of 18 months – 4 years. Low self-esteem, high levels of insecurity, issues with confidence, lack of will-power/ambition and striving for perfectionism are all at the center of the solar plexus chakra and its deficiencies in energy: the excess as well as imbalanced.

  • Do you ever feel like you constantly second guess and doubt your capabilities and yourself?
  • Do you feel easily influenced by others?
  • Perhaps you feel as though you cannot have just one piece of cake, and lack complete self~discipline?
  • Maybe you aren’t great at receiving compliments, and reject the flattery and compliments others give you?
  • Perhaps you are constantly putting yourself down, and engaging in negative self-talk?

When we are raised being critiqued, judged or not given positive feedback, we often internalize this as adults that we are not worthy. We internalize this as low self-worth and low confidence.

How to unblock and open the solar plexus to reclaim your inner power, and connect to your worthiness, boosting your inner confidence:

Think Yellow

Yellow is the color of the solar plexus, so consuming yellow foods such as curries, juices, and vegetables and fruit like golden beetroot, yellow peppers, and bananas can really assist in opening the flow of energy to the solar plexus.

Even wearing yellow clothing, can energetically open and balance the solar plexus chakra as well.

Think Fire

Fire is the element associated with the solar plexus chakra. Sitting around a bonfire, a fire pit, or candles, is very cleansing for our solar plexus. Burning sage, palo santo or incense is also very calming and cleansing for this chakra.

Have you ever been to a day spa or inhaled the calming smell of incense or candles? Perhaps your soul feels centered and aligned when sitting around a campfire?

Anything associated with the fire element is connected to death and rebirth, burning away the energy that no longer serves us, creating space for energy that does serve us; specifically the energy of reclaiming our inner power, our worthiness, and connecting to our inner confidence.

Think Inner Power, Willpower, Self-Worth, Self-Discipline + Identity

The solar plexus is the chakra of self-worth, and self-power. It is where anything that relates to our sense of worthiness lies. Affirmations are powerful in balancing and opening all our chakras, and can really assist us in vibing high, clearing fear, and restoring balance to our nervous system.

Consider writing down these below affirmations in your own handwriting, and then reciting several times out loud. Notice what comes up for you when you recite them. Are some affirmations more challenging to say than others?

Some affirmations to help open the solar plexus chakra are:

  • “I reclaim my inner power, and take my power back.”
  • “I connect to my inner power.”
  • “I am a powerful being.”
  • “I am enough.”
  • “I am worthy & I see my worth.”
  • “I respect myself”
  • “I speak to myself with love & kindness.”
  • “I have a purpose, and I am aligning with my purpose.”
  • “I connect to my inner confidence.”
  • “I release the need for external approval.”
  • “I am learning to approve myself deeply and authentically.”
  • “I am a resilient, disciplined & focused.
