When it comes to choosing from our organic face moisturizers, it’s best to work out what you need based on how your skin feels and presents on a daily basis.
Read on for your skin type to learn how to choose + use your best organic face moisturizer.
And how to mix + match too!
Dry Skin
Dry skin is devoid of naturally-occurring oils + lipids. Not to be confused with skin that is lacking water; classified as dehydrated skin.
Skin seen as dry can occur from any number of reasons: topical applications, aging, weather, genetics, chemicals and hormones. It can present—and result—in skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis. Ranging from mild to severe, with flaky skin being the most visible (and painful) end of the spectrum.
However, both dry skin and dehydrated skin and can be alleviated and remedied with layers of hydration + moisture; there there is a difference between the two. Hydration comes from water; while moisture is from oil. The truth is that you need both for a balanced skincare routine.
The other factor that comes into play, is that as we age, we lose the ability to create and retain lipids in our skin. Lipids play their role in balancing moisture levels, as well as maintaining our natural skin barrier.
When coupled with the fact that we produce less collagen each year. Collagen and elastin fibres are proteins that support the structure of our skin. This natural decline, AKA the aging process means our skin does not have the structure to maintain our natural oils, and can further present as dry and dull.
Don’t let this dissuade you; we can empower you on the journey with the layers needed to fight the good fight and maximise your glow for as long as possible!
It’s vital to reach for a natural face moisturizer abundant in rich omega fatty acids, Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Hyaluronic Acid. To name just a few.
In terms of a skincare line-up think layers: cleansing oil, hydrating serum, a natural moisturizer that acts as a night cream, a face oil, overnight mask and nourishing eye cream.
Morning and night, seven days a week!
Your skin will love you for it.

Oily Skin
Although it’s hard to believe, oily skin can often be linked to dry skin. The reason being that when the skin is regularly stripped of its natural oils—from using stringent cleansers or toners lacking in pH balance—the skin thinks it’s oil reserves are empty and creates more. The skin can then fluctuate between oily and dry, and oil flow can become out of balance and can result in overflow.
One way around this is using a pH friendly cleanser to clear excess oil from the skins’ surface without dismantling our skin barrier. We asked our formulations specialist the ins-and-outs of ph friendly cleansers, here.
When it comes to excess oil flow that result in breakouts, the key is to keep your skin clean, and to drink plenty of purified water daily. This can help to flush toxins, and excess oil through your skin; and to shift congestion from within the skin. When oil and sebum can move freely without being trapped, you’re less likely to see breakouts on your skin’s surface.
To take a deeper look at this, when a gland—known as a sebaceous gland—is sitting very close to a hair follicle. The friction of gland and follicle can cause a blockage to the hair follicle due to inflammation. Bacteria can then form, and create even further inflammation creating what we see as a pimple.
Breakouts, acne or blemishes can be created from hormonal changes, stress, lifestyle change, poor diet or a number of other reasons. It’s important to keep your skin clean, yet of equal importance to use a lightweight gel moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and nourished without weighing down the skin.
It’s vital to remove heavy SPF products and make up of an evening, to sleep with clean and moisturized skin. The skin regenerates overnight so its the perfect time to empower your skin with the nourishment needed to regenerate overnight. We love our Active Algae Lightweight Moisturizer for this reason: it’s ultra-nourishing, deeply hydrating, yet light to reduce congestion.
We advocate adequate exercise and rest, plenty of purified water and meditation to help bring about balance from within; coupling inner health with certified organic products that are clean and nourishing.
To keep breakouts at bay, you may wish to turn and change your pillow slip regularly, to sleep on clean fabric each night as you slumber.

Sensitive Skin
When it comes to skin that is sensitive—it’s vital to choose a skincare routine that is free from nasty toxins, parabens, chemicals, and unnaturally scented products. The reason being, that these unnecessary ingredients can often wreak havoc for our complexion.
As our skins differ, our ability to tolerate certain ingredients do as well. Even if cream is as clean as you can get—AKA certified organic—a natural and organic product may still cause a slight reaction; although uncommon.
For sensitive skin’s we suggest reaching for soothing ingredients that can bring about relief and spur regeneration for twice daily use. (For this we love the combination of natural ingredients: certified organic Aloe Vera, Green Tea, Green Algae, Alpine Rose and Swiss Glacier Water in our Active Algae Lightweight Mositurizer. Ideal for sensitive and combination skin.)
A natural moisturizer is not to be missed if you have skin on the sensitive side. Damage or loss of our natural skin barrier can increase sensitivity to the skin. This is often the way when using chemical wipes + chemically-heavy skincare products as they strip the skin. The nonorganic nature of the ingredients can interrupt the way the skin functions, and react with mild to severe, skin conditions such as ezcema, rosacea, dermatis
Our skin barrier is a naturally occuring function of the skin to keep nourishment in, and protect anything out from invading. When this invisible yet protective layer is disrupted—which is often created by genetic or lifestyle choices—irritation and inflammation can occur. Both these reactions are filed under the guise of sensitive skin.
We have good news! You can restore your skins’ barrier by layering antioxidants, oils, and humectants to lock in both hydration and moisture. Which is why moisturising is so vital.
It’s important to note that sensitive skin is increasingly common in female skin. As men have naturally thicker skin, it serves as a resilient and natural protective barrier to allergens and irritants. (A common sensitivity that male skin experiences is congested skin from shaving, and for this we suggest a lightweight moisturizer that does not clog pores or the hair shaft.)
Cleansing your skin in lukewarm water, using only gentle certified organic products, and keeping your skin out of direct sunlight are simple ways to overcome skin sensitivity. We also suggest avoiding harsh exfoliants and astringents, as too much stimulation can result in inflamed and irritated skin.
Simplicity is your friend to clean and hydrate skin, in a sensitive skin routine.

Mature Skin
It’s a fact that we as we mature, our bodies naturally produce less and less collagen and elastin fibres each year. Natural hydration reserves also decrease and our skin can appear to become dry, dull and sunken in appearance.
This natural bodily process is more commonly known as aging—which begins from as early as our twenties and steadily declines each decade on.
It’s important to remember that aging can be graceful + empowered.
For what our bodies produce less of, we can counter with topical applications, morning and night. To gift aging skin with what it needs to function and thrive at its best.
We see it as a simple mindset shift.
To take it upon ourselves to give back to our skin and feed it twice daily with natural lipids, essential fatty acids, nutrients, vitamins and antioxidant rich oils, just as we would our body.
The signs of aging can become more apparent around the age of 35, when our body makes less collagen and elastin. These famed proteins are responsible for maintaining our skin structure, elasticity and bounce. (Which young skin has in plenty!)
A small percentage of aging factors is due to genetics, yet an alarmingly large percentage is due to sun damage. Which cements why SPF should be the final step in your routine for maximum sun protection and anti aging benefits, even on cloudy days.
With certified organic innovation we can add more to our daily organic moisturizer, to treat and prevent, the signs we see as aging: fine lines, wrinkles thinning and fragile skin.
