The lovely Kelsey Patel—Hollywood reiki master & author of Burning Bright—is an advocate for stopping to smell the roses.
Her joyous ways to create space in the mind and body, when feeling stretched, light us up. Kelsey walks us through how to hold our grace, and keep our cool, throughout this social season.
As balance often goes out the window when the holiday season rolls around, I thought I would share my favorite ways to keep a cool head, relaxed mind & open heart.
One | Breathe
Give yourself the gift of time-out with a short three-minute breathwork practice to centre your self.
Start by taking three rounds of deep inhales and exhales to open the body, calm the mind, and welcome space into your day.
Two | Go Outside
Open your heart to nature, breathing in all that nature offers. Fresh air and sunshine can allow the energy of the body to lift.
Take the time to smell the roses, put your feet in the sand, enjoy sun on your face, and listen to the world around you.
Three | Dance it Out
Endorphins are your best friend. You can get out of any funk by giving your body a good sweat.
It’s fun too! Dance like no one is watching and feel how endorphins can naturally boost your mood.
Four | Max the Music
Hit your jams. And take time out to feel what you need to feel.
Play your favorite song or playlist and take a few minutes to just listen, rock out, dance or cry if you need to.
Five | Use your Oils
Get in touch with scent. Connect and open up your body. Take a few drops of your favorite essential oil and dab 2-3 drops on your wrists. Massage them together and take a few deep belly breaths.
Add a little coconut oil to your favorite tea to hydrate. Or give yourself a mini-massage for five minutes, covering your feet and hands with your chosen oil.
Six | Tech Free
You’ve likely heard it all before but many of us are addicted to the instant gratification of social media. It may even be the thing that triggers us to feel bad or down in the first place.
Close your computer down and shut off your cell phone; taking as much time as you can away from your gadgets. Sleep in a room with no gadgets and turn off the WIFI at night for better rest.
Seven | Act with Love
I love to mail handwritten cards to the people I love the most. Write to someone you love, a best friend, guardian or treasured teacher and tell them why you’re grateful they’re in your life.
The simple act of sharing love helps to brighten and open the heart.
