A Sultry Soft Smokey Eye – Lisa Storey

Working with Miranda on many shoots, sometimes back-to-back days and occasionally two shoots in one day, I can see how her approach to health with organic choices really take effect. Her diet and using KORA Organics products keeps her skin healthy and balanced, and her energy consistent. I’m often curious of what food she brings to work, it’s always delicious, healthy on the go nutrition… that makes the long hours and need to remain energized much easier.

The make up looks can go in any direction… a sultry soft smokey eye like the one we created for the Swarovski campaign still looks fresh and bold even at the end of the day with Miranda’s eyes naturally sparkling through.

For this look I applied a peach gold (Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Color) on the lid and inner lower edge of the eye then a bronze to the outer eye, shaping and contouring to lift the eyes up. Next with a powder shadow (Tom Ford eyeshadow quad in Cognac Sable) I blended outwards to create the soft smoky effect. Chanel precision eyeliner in Amber on the inner lid and lashing of mascara completed the look.

I use my hands as a palette and am constantly cleaning them off so I always have KORA Organics Daily Hand Cream with me to nourish and replenish them after continual cleaning. At times I can get eczema (a type of dry skin) on my palms from using artificial hand soaps and detergents (when out and about) but I use the healing and protective KORA Organics Daily Hand Cream as my go-to treatment, knowing I can touch faces, prepare food etc. without the worry of having anything other than organic on my skin.

Travelling for work can take a harsh toll on your skin with air conditioned cabins causing your skin to become dehydrated. Here I share my in-flight skincare essentials to ensure you land looking fresh and glowing.

First I remove my make up with KORA Organics KORA Organics Cream Cleanser to gently remove all the dirt and grime while at the same time nourishing the skin. I then apply KORA Organics Hydrating Mask to clean, rehydrate and invigorate my complexion.

Spritzing my face during the flight with either my KORA Organics Balancing Rose Mist or KORA Organics Calming Lavender Mist to balance the pH level in my skin while also soothing and hydrating.

Next is an added boost of hydration with the KORA Organics Luxurious Rosehip Oil, a powerful treatment oil which is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids to deeply moisturise and protect my skin.

An eye cream is essential to prevent you from looking tired just in case you didn’t get that much-needed beauty sleep. Applying the KORA Organics Recovery Eye Gel Cream which contains Aloe Vera will help to assist to cool and soothe, tired puffy eyes.

Don’t forget to hydrate your hands with the KORA Organics Daily Hand Cream

Some other things I carry on board with me include a silk eye mask to ensure I get some beauty sleep while I’m on the flight, a scarf so you can add a few layers or take it off so you can be flexible adjusting to the temperature. I also remember to hydrate from within by drinking lots of water and herbal teas.

Just before I touch down I will spritz my face with KORA Organics Energising Citrus Mist to brighten my complexion and just to give me that boost of energy by taking in the aroma of the citrus scents, I’ll apply KORA Organics Tinted Day Cream as it’s a lighter alternative to foundation, and then apply KORA Organics Vitamin Enhanced Lip Balm to my lips.

It’s a lot of work, but it ensures I disembark looking and feeling fresh.

I wish everyone safe travels when you embark on your next adventure.

Much love

A Simple Fresh Faced Beauty Look by Lisa Storey

I have worked with Miranda on many different types of shoots and commercials and every time I am reminded of her approach to beauty, from not only what you put on your skin, but what you put in your body and how you feel contributes to how your skin looks. Eating organic and using organic products that nourish the skin (and body) when possible I think really makes a difference. As a make up artist its always amazing to create looks and watch Miranda bring her magic to them. Well moisturized skin is key for any look. I like to use KORA Organics Hydrating Day and Night Cream, sometimes mixing in a drop of KORA Organics Luxurious Rosehip Oil for extra richness. My favorite looks on Miranda always start with natural radiant dewy skin . The next step is applying the KORA Organics Tinted Day Cream followed by and rose tinted cream blush (La Praire Cellular Radiance Cream Blush) A little concealer where needed (Cle De Peau) and a soft pink tone added to lips and we have a simple fresh faced beauty look.

A Tale for Tea Time – by Anita Rosenberg

Sit, relax and take a tea break while I tell you a brief tale of how these famous fragrant leaves arrived in the West via China and India.

It was British horticulturist Robert Fortune who was sent under cover in 1848 to China to steal tea growing secrets and bring cuttings to India for the East India Company. “For All the Tea in China – How England Stole the World’s Favorite Drink and Changed the World”written by Sarah Rose chronicles Fortune’s adventures and is one of my favorite books. It is a fascinating tale that takes you deep into the unknown and unexplored regions of China and one man’s journey to bring tea to the rest of the world. Robert Fortune struggled against pirates, suspicious locals, the elements and his own untrustworthy companions, all for the sake of a humble leaf that would change the world forever. It’s a great read.

If not for Robert Fortune, tea may not be the world’s most popular and widely consumed drink, after water. Brits arriving in Hong Kong would not have introduced “afternoon tea” where black tea was served with milk and sugar. Today, India is the second-largest producer of tea. What I love about traveling throughout Eastern cultures is that there is a tea component to everything from shopping and socializing to dining. My next big trip would be visiting the tea plantations in India from Aasam to Darljeeling.

Tea Guide:

Green Tea is popular today for its many health benefits. It is said to aid in weight loss by boosting metabolism, and its antioxidants can help prevent certain types of cancer.

White Tea is the lightest variation; sweet and fragrant. It has very little caffeine and is said to have anticancer properties.

Black Tea is a caffeinated pick me up that doesn’t dip and drop your energy as the day goes on. My day always starts with a black tea.

Oolong Tea is common in Chinese restaurants, a more robust and fuller body drink. Oolong has antioxidants that aid in weight loss, improves mental clarity and reduces risk of cancer and heart disease.

Miranda’s Favourite Tea’s
Miranda loves her teas and when you spend an afternoon with the lovely Miranda, you will always be offered a cup of yummy tea.
Some of her favorites include:

  • Her signature Earl Grey Tea with goat milk and maple syrup (or honey) is as delicious as it is heart warming, its like a hug in a cup!
  • Fresh Mint Tea – Miranda picks the mint from her herb garden, this promotes digestion and is incredibly refreshing.
  • Green Tea – contains potent antioxidants called polyphenols, which help suppress free radicals.
  • Rosehip Tea – Rosehips are the fruit of the rose plant and are one of the best plant sources of vitamin C, which is important for the immune system, adrenal function and skin & tissue health.
  • Chamomile Tea – soothes the stomach and calms the mind.
  • Hibiscus Flower Tea – rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which protect the body against cell-damaging free radicals.
  • Tulsi Tea – helps the mind and body adapt and effectively cope with emotional stresses. Fights free radicals and has anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Dandelion Tea – helps regulate parts of the digestive system and cleanses the liver, helps flight skin infections and is rich in calcium & antioxidants and high in vitamin A and K.

Miranda’s Aromatherapy Body Washes

Aromatherapy is the use of pure plant extracts known as essential oils to assist in the physical and psychological wellbeing of the body, mind and spirit. It has many benefits and is something I truly believe in and love practising in my day-to-day life.

I have developed three limited edition aromatherapy body washes that use the very best blends of certified organic essential oils. Each body wash has been been specifically formulated to soothe, uplift and harmonise. They all use nurturing ingredients that are gentle and won’t irritate or dry your skin.

The Balancing Body Wash uses pure organic Geranium, Rose, Orange and Ylang Ylang essential oils to really harmonise and balance your mood. It smells beautiful and it is a great everyday wash, day and night, in the bath or the shower.

The Calming Body Wash uses Lavender, Chamomile and Bergamot essential oils to soothe and relax your body and mind. It is perfect to use at night to assist in calming your senses and helps you unwind before bed to encourage a deep restful night’s sleep.

The Energising Body Wash uses Lemongrass, Bergamot, Orange and Mandarin essential oils, it helps to motivate and uplift your senses. I love using it in the morning as it makes me feel energised and revitalised, ready for the day ahead!

My tip is to take the time to enjoy all of the aromatherapy benefits when using the body washes (or one of the KORA Organics Mists). Close your eyes and take three deep inhalations, count to ten as you exhale and think of a positive affirmation.

  • Put the rosemary whole in the crock-pot
  • Put the lid on the pot and put in the oven
  • Hourly check on the chicken making sure you spoon the juices over the chicken
  • Slow roast for 4 hours keeping the oven on 150°C

  • 1 Onion (cut in quarters)

Roasted Vegetables Method

Place all your vegetables in an oven proof dish, add in the coconut oil, rosemary and sprinkle over with the salt and herbamare.

Place in the oven at 150°C for 60 – 80 minutes

Tip: Make sure you cut all your pieces similar in sizing so they all cook evenly. I also turn the oven up to 180°C for the last 10 minutes (after I take the chicken out to rest) so they’re nice and crisp on the outside.

Healing Energy

Healing Energy

You may have read in some press articles that when I’m asked what’s in my handbag, along with my KORA Organics mist, lip balm, hand cream, phone, wallet and affirmation cards, I often mention a crystal wand or a Rose Quartz crystal.

My crystal wand is incredibly special to me, and is one of my most cherished items. It’s made of Clear Quartz and is studded with Rose Quartz. Clear Quartz is a great stone for gathering, directing and transmitting energy… it can also transform negative energy into positive energy, and Rose Quartz is a wonderful stone to heal and protect the heart, balance emotions, release stress and tension, and encourage love and self-esteem.

Crystals can be used in many different methods of healing. In addition to using on a specific area of the body, or on Chakras points to locate blockages to cleanse and heal them, they can also be used in massage.

Massaging the body with a crystal helps to release tension from the body, while at the same time the stone’s healing energy is transferred to the body. I hold my crystal during meditation, prayer, deep belly breathing, and use it to infuse my Luxurious Rosehip Body Oil with positive vibrations prior to a massage. I also sleep with it near by so I’m constantly receiving its special healing energies.

This month we are giving you a gift of a heart-shaped Rose Quartz crystal with any purchase of our Rose products (Balancing Rose Mist, Luxurious Rosehip Oil or Luxurious Rosehip Body Oil). Carry it with you to benefit from its positive energies and high vibration of love.

Encourage Kindness

Encourage Kindness

This time of year is one of my favourites, mostly because it’s the season of goodwill and gratitude. It’s a time to pause and reflect on the year that’s been, celebrate hard work, acknowledge the lessons we’ve learnt, and thank all who’ve guided and supported us along the way.

I’m incredibly grateful for my family, my friends, my colleagues and each of you who support me in my passion, KORA Organics. I truly believe in the products we create, but for me KORA Organics is so much more than skin care. It’s uniting a community who band together to bring positivity and kindness into the world.

As we head into 2015, I ask that we all continue to consider the impact we have on each other’s lives, and how a simple act of kindness can transform another person’s day. Encourage kindness in all that you do.

I’ll leave you with a quote from someone I admire from the heart, Amma the Hugging Saint.

“Love is our true essence. Love has no limitations of caste, religion, race, or nationality. We are all beads strung together on the same thread of love. To awaken this unity–and to spread to others the love that is our inherent nature–is the true goal of human life.”

Happy Holidays!

The Power of Gratitude

The Power of Gratitude

This month we’re celebrating Gratitude, so we thought we’d share with you again Miranda’s personal blog post on gratitude, and what it means to her.

We hope you enjoy.

The KORA Organics team xxx

I was raised from a very young age to always give thanks and show gratitude – especially for the little things that are easy to take for granted.

Gratitude to me is the quality of being thankful, and the readiness to show kindness and appreciation to those around you.

It’s understandable that we’re often so busy planning our future and chasing our dreams that we can forget to be present, and in turn, forget to be grateful because we’re already chasing, or focusing on, the next thing.

Taking time at the beginning of each day to appreciate all you have, and focusing on that rather than what you don’t have, can transform your day, and the day of those around you. Take a moment to relish in your achievements, and celebrate all you have accomplished in life, be thankful for your health, your loved ones, that the sun is shining or appreciate that rain is falling to benefit the beauty in nature that surrounds you.

By putting good and positivity out there, you can attract more positivity and good into your life, which in turn can enhance your wellbeing, optimism and happiness.

It would be remiss of me not to mention it’s also important to be grateful for life’s challenges – we all have them, and it’s these challenges that serve as lessons to allow us to grow and expand. So use challenges to your advantage, not to your detriment.

Here are three simple ways to inspire more gratitude:

Pen to paper

Write down in a gratitude journal each morning three things that you are grateful for that day. Be present when you do this to make it more meaningful, and to truly connect with what it is. When we acknowledge something we are grateful for in this way, it can increase in its value as you are able to realize and appreciate its full worth.

Acts of kindness

Positive emotions can flourish with one simple act of kindness. If you see someone who needs help, offer a hand; make a donation to charity or volunteer your time; smile at the person who you are passing on the street. This can inspire others who have been the beneficiary of your kindness to also extend kindness to others.

Say thank you

If you appreciate someone for what they have done, you both experience more positive emotions. Take moment to think of someone who you’ve been meaning to thank and pick up the phone, write an email or a letter, and thank them and express your gratitude and appreciation.

Gratitude has the ability to bring happiness, contentment, peace and serenity. It opens our heart and our mind to embrace positive thinking. I’d love to hear how you incorporate gratitude in your day.

Much love,

Miranda xxx
