Miranda’s In-flight Skincare essentials

Travelling for work can take a harsh toll on your skin with air conditioned cabins causing your skin to become dehydrated. Here I share my in-flight skincare essentials to ensure you land looking fresh and glowing.

First I remove my make up with KORA Organics KORA Organics Cream Cleanser to gently remove all the dirt and grime while at the same time nourishing the skin. I then apply KORA Organics Hydrating Mask to clean, rehydrate and invigorate my complexion.

Spritzing my face during the flight with either my KORA Organics Balancing Rose Mist or KORA Organics Calming Lavender Mist to balance the pH level in my skin while also soothing and hydrating.

Next is an added boost of hydration with the KORA Organics Luxurious Rosehip Oil, a powerful treatment oil which is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids to deeply moisturise and protect my skin.

An eye cream is essential to prevent you from looking tired just in case you didn’t get that much-needed beauty sleep. Applying the KORA Organics Recovery Eye Gel Cream which contains Aloe Vera will help to assist to cool and soothe, tired puffy eyes.

Don’t forget to hydrate your hands with the KORA Organics Daily Hand Cream

Some other things I carry on board with me include a silk eye mask to ensure I get some beauty sleep while I’m on the flight, a scarf so you can add a few layers or take it off so you can be flexible adjusting to the temperature. I also remember to hydrate from within by drinking lots of water and herbal teas.

Just before I touch down I will spritz my face with KORA Organics Energising Citrus Mist to brighten my complexion and just to give me that boost of energy by taking in the aroma of the citrus scents, I’ll apply KORA Organics Tinted Day Cream as it’s a lighter alternative to foundation, and then apply KORA Organics Vitamin Enhanced Lip Balm to my lips.

It’s a lot of work, but it ensures I disembark looking and feeling fresh.

I wish everyone safe travels when you embark on your next adventure.

Much love

Miranda’s Aromatherapy Body Washes

Aromatherapy is the use of pure plant extracts known as essential oils to assist in the physical and psychological wellbeing of the body, mind and spirit. It has many benefits and is something I truly believe in and love practising in my day-to-day life.

I have developed three limited edition aromatherapy body washes that use the very best blends of certified organic essential oils. Each body wash has been been specifically formulated to soothe, uplift and harmonise. They all use nurturing ingredients that are gentle and won’t irritate or dry your skin.

The Balancing Body Wash uses pure organic Geranium, Rose, Orange and Ylang Ylang essential oils to really harmonise and balance your mood. It smells beautiful and it is a great everyday wash, day and night, in the bath or the shower.

The Calming Body Wash uses Lavender, Chamomile and Bergamot essential oils to soothe and relax your body and mind. It is perfect to use at night to assist in calming your senses and helps you unwind before bed to encourage a deep restful night’s sleep.

The Energising Body Wash uses Lemongrass, Bergamot, Orange and Mandarin essential oils, it helps to motivate and uplift your senses. I love using it in the morning as it makes me feel energised and revitalised, ready for the day ahead!

My tip is to take the time to enjoy all of the aromatherapy benefits when using the body washes (or one of the KORA Organics Mists). Close your eyes and take three deep inhalations, count to ten as you exhale and think of a positive affirmation.

Much love,

Relax and Heal with Sandalwood by Holly Star

Sandalwood is a very healing medicine that has a warming, woodsy scent and also has a grounding effect (feeling centered and balanced) on the body.

Typically sandalwood oil was being harvested from trees in India, they are now mostly harvested responsibly in Western Australia.

Sandalwood is great for relaxing, use the incense or the oil for deep meditation or meditative states, as it is a calmative to the mind. It can also act as an anti depressant, and ease the mind from wandering states.

I love to burn red sandalwood for grounding, releasing fear, and creating a more prosperous state. Sandalwood stimulates the base Chakra, improving self identity and trust. This is great if you are having survival issues, fight or flight response, similarly any nervous system complexities, or adrenal issues.

So light some incense or you can apply the oil, breath deep, let go of the muscles holding on, and ask for the tree to open your root, for it to ground your body and help you trust the direction in your life.

To me, ageing showcases the experience and wisdom that comes with time on earth.

People who truly fascinate me are the ones that have stories etched in their faces and infused in their eyes. I want to listen to them, ask questions and learn from them… and I’m often left in awe of what they have accomplished in life.

Growing older and growing wiser is a privilege denied to many. I made a decision long ago when I lost someone close to me who was in their youth, to embrace my life, my experiences (the good and not so good) and the honour to grow older.

I don’t take my health for granted. I make conscious choices when it comes to the lifestyle I lead. I choose food that is organically grown (when possible), in its most natural state and that fuels my body with the nutrients it needs to function at its best. I practice yoga and meditation for mindfulness, pilates and dance for flexibility, and light weight training for strength. And I believe in the power of prayer and affirmation to make a positive difference to my life.

As I mature, I also want to look my best and preserve my skin’s tone and texture. I now need a little more TLC then I did 7 years ago when I first launched KORA Organics, so I have created two new products to compliment the range that will feed, nurture and rejuvenate your skin to keep it looking its healthiest and its best. We’ve used ingredients created by nature and supported by science to help restore radiance, brighten the complexion and relax fine lines and wrinkles.

The Age-Defying AHA Exfoliator is a dual-action exfoliating treatment that revitalises the look and feel of the skin. AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxyl Acids and our Megafruit AHA Activated Blend contains a number of organic, naturally occurring AHA plant acids. The AHAs help soften dry dead cells, so I leave the treatment on for 5 minutes while they work their magic. Then the little fossilised diatom beads help scrub and exfoliate away the dead skin cells, leaving my skin fresh, smooth, renewed and glowing. The scrubbing and exfoliating action also helps improve circulation, increasing the rate of skin cell renewal. Key ingredients include: Chamomile, Oat, Green Tea, Olive, Noni and Aloe Vera extracts.

The Age-Defying Phytox™ Oil is a super treatment oil that I apply to my skin morning and night after I cleanse, mist/tone and moisturise. It’s our premium formula for addressing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Phytox™ is a trademarked combination of plant-derived ingredients revered for their anti-ageing properties. Two of the main key actives are Acai fruit oil and Lavandula Stoechas, which is a type of Lavender plant. Acai fruit oil is an antioxidant powerhouse packed with essential fatty acids, phytosterols, minerals and vitamin C, which all assist in the nutrition, hydration and healing of the skin. The Lavandula Stoechas acts like a kind of sellotape for the epidermis, fixing and relaxing the wrinkle to enable rebuilding of the skin and thus decreasing expression lines. This treatment oil has become one of my favourite products as it restores and renews my complexion, making my skin appear softer, smoother, more radiant and younger looking.

Much love,
Miranda xxx

Green Tea Is A Key Ingredient Of KORA Organics

June #2 DIY eDM blog image Green Tea Is A Key Ingredient Of KORA Organics

Miranda is often quoted as a fan of drinking Green Tea for its numerous health and wellness benefits, but it’s also one of the key ingredients she identified to be used in the KORA Organics range, along with Noni Fruit Extract, Rosehip Oil and Vitamins A, C & E.

Free radicals come from pollution and environmental factors such as smoke, smog, sunlight and are also caused by stress. They start a chain reaction and continue to damage cells unless neutralized by an antioxidant.

Whilst our bodies naturally create free radicals as well as antioxidants, we often have more free radicals than antioxidants, which is why we need to supplement internally and externally with antioxidants to keep our skin and body the healthiest it can be.

Curling up to a cup of green tea does a lot more than relax you, it’s a great way to stay hydrated and get an antioxidant boost, we recommend you drink at least three cups a day to reap the benefits!

The DIY Deep Double Cleanse Facial

June #1 DIY eDM blog image DIY Deep Double Cleanse Facial

One of my secrets to maintaining healthy, glowing skin is to do a DIY deep double cleanse facial. It’s a pampering ritual I look forward to at the end of each working week. Not only can I relax and unwind… I’m doing something beneficial for my skin that has immediate results so I can go makeup free for the weekend.

Enjoy, Miranda xxx

Hope you enjoy this pampering ritual as much as I do,

Cleanse – Use your KORA Organics Cleanser (Foaming Cleanser for normal or oily/combination and Cream Cleanser for dry/sensitive skin), to remove all traces of make up, dirt and grime.

Double Cleanse – Apply your KORA Organics Exfoliating Cream and massage over face, neck and décolletage to remove any dry, dead skin cells. Then cleanse again to ensure you’ve removed all matter from your pores and it’s prepped for a steam bath.

Steam – Fill your basin with a jug of freshly boiled water, add an organic green tea bag to the water, place your head over the basin and cover with a large towel… let the steam envelope your face for a few minutes to open your pores.

Purify and Refine – After the steam bath, gently pat skin dry and apply the Clay Purifying mask… this will help draw out any impurities, rebalance the skin and refine texture and clarity.

Hydrate and Repair – Next, give your skin a hydration boost by misting with your preferred KORA Organics Mist. Warm a few drops of Luxurious Rosehip Oil in your palms and press into the skin… this will deeply penetrate, nourish and repair your skin. Apply a small amount of Eye Cream to protect the gentle eye area, and complete the ritual by applying your preferred Day & Night Cream followed by a dab of Vitamin Enhanced Lip Balm.

Putting Your Pores Under The Spot Light

May #2 eDM Blog image perfect pores

Your skin contains many openings through which sebum (oil) from the sebaceous glands come to the skin’s surface via the hair follicle and pores of the sudoriferous (sweat) glands. In an ideal world, the perspiration and sebum mix together in normal amounts to form a breathable barrier on the skin’s surface, naturally moisturizing and protecting it from the environment.

But this is not always the case, and pores can easily become blocked.

Once the pores become blocked, the skin’s function of breathing (exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide) is hindered, oil cannot be secreted, waste by-products cannot be excreted, moisture cannot be absorbed, and the acid mantel (pH) that naturally protects the skin is compromised. These factors can result in everything from a dull complexion to enlarged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and even severe acne.

In an ideal world, the perspiration and sebum mix together in normal amounts to form a breathable barrier on the skin’s surface, naturally moisturizing and protecting it from the environment. But this is not always the case, and pores can easily become blocked.

“The acid mantle is a very fine, slightly acidic film on the surface of the skin acting as a barrier to bacteria, viruses and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin. It is secreted by sebaceous glands.”

Key factors that contribute to blocked and enlarged pores are; trapped dirt, build up of dead skin cells, makeup, sebum, and other debris that cannot come out of the pore. That’s why it’s important to cleanse properly, exfoliate regularly and use a good quality moisturiser specifically for your skin type, so you can keep your skin functioning at its best.

To help you get started we’ve put together the perfect products for each skin type to cleanse, tone and moisturise.

“FACT – Pores do not contain muscles therefore you cannot control the dilation or shrinkage of them with topical skin care products, you need to maintain a good skincare routine that keeps your skin clean and your skins pH level balanced.”

Dry skin – what causes it?

Dry skin is a common skin condition characterised by a lack of water in the most superficial layer of the skin, the epidermis.

The epidermis is normally composed of fat (lipid) and protein. The lipid portion of the epidermis helps prevent skin dehydration. When the skin’s fatty oils are removed, the skin loses its protection and loses moisture more easily.

As skin becomes dry, it also can become more sensitive and prone to redness and rashes. If left untreated, dry skin may become a more severe, long-term skin problem, which is why it’s important to treat it.

Dry skin can be caused by cooler climates, heating, air-conditioning, some medications, harsh soaps and can also be heredity.

The Simple Way Of Telling Whether Something Is “Organic”, “Natural” or “Certified Organic”

There is a huge misrepresentation in relation to the use of the word “organic” and even “natural”. Sadly a company can claim something is “organic” or “natural” if it contains one natural or “organic” ingredient, yet it may contain literally thousands of chemicals.

The only way a product is free from the TEAs, DEAs, MEA’s, Phthalates, Obesogens (chemicals that make your fat cells multiply) Sulfates, Glycols, Parabens, Synthetic and Artificial ingredients, Ethoxylates, Formaldehyde and Formaldehyde derivatives if is it is “Certified Organic”.

Research is showing that health issues from these chemicals include infertility, skin rashes, cancer, learning disabilities, birth defects and reproductive problems. According to a report by Dr. Sarah Lantz of the Queensland University, children are capable of absorbing 40-50% more chemicals than adults therefore putting them at greater risk for health issues later in life. Therefore it is vitally important to minimise any exposure for children and babies, even in utero. One of the quickest ways a women detoxes is by having a baby, the second fastest is through breast-feeding. And yes, breast-feeding is the absolute best thing for our babies, but the importance of cleansing and detoxing our bodies prior to conception is becoming increasingly apparent as more and more researchers are speaking out as to their concerns about the impact of our everyday chemicals on our babies and their future. Some have even gone so far as to say we are the only species on this planet actively contributing to our own extinction!

How do you tell if something is “Certified Organic” – it must contain a recognised certification logo and it will actually say Certified Organic on the label.

Many people think ‘organic produce’ and believe it is just about the things that are ‘added’ to the process that defines organic, it is not until prompted that the penny drops that it’s also about what is ‘missing’ with certified organic produce – that being pesticides, herbicides and toxic synthetic chemicals. It is only then that organic & certified organic becomes meaningful.

If we take the cosmetic industry as an example The Australian Certified Organics (ACO) has produced a criteria against which certified organic products are assessed. When you review the criteria or Certified and Natural, it is easy to see the differences. Amongst the difference Natural allows ingredients to be sources from genetically modified plants.
